Russia has proposed to create a BRICS geological platform for data sharing, which has been met with enthusiasm by other BRICS members, particularly South Africa. The proposal is seen as a means to coordinate the extraction and exploration of mineral reserves within BRICS countries. The platform would also help strengthen the cooperation of geological services among the member states.
The proposal was put forward by Alexander Kozlov, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of Russia, during his meeting with Moses Mabuza, Chief Executive Officer of the Geology Council of South Africa. The aim of the platform is to allow the BRICS member states to coordinate and collaborate on their mineral reserves and extraction methods in light of the increasing demand for natural resources. By sharing data and expertise, the BRICS countries can optimize the exploration and development of their mineral resources.
The BRICS countries are some of the world’s largest producers and consumers of natural resources. The group consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. These countries are all rich in natural resources, including minerals such as gold, iron ore, copper, and platinum. By sharing data and expertise on their mineral resources, the BRICS countries can benefit from each other’s strengths and work together to address common challenges.
The proposed platform would also help strengthen the cooperation of the geological services of the BRICS countries. This cooperation could lead to the development of common standards for mineral resource reporting and evaluation, which would benefit both the member states and the global mining industry.
